Pavithra Halkatti’s paternal Great grandfather, Vachana Pitamaha Dr P. G. Halkatti, is a towering literary figure and a social reformer who dedicated his life for spreading the ideals of Basaveshwara and Shiva Sharanas. He started institutions involved in the cause of education such as The ‘Veerashaiva Shikshana Fund’, ‘Veerashaiva Vidyavardhaka Sangha’, ‘Siddeshvara Middle School’ and so on.

Dr Halkatti established the first cooperative bank the ‘Siddeshvara Bank’ which completed its centenary in 2016. Being a lawyer Dr Halkatti gave up his legal practice and dedicated his entire life for the cause of Vachana literature.  Dr Halkatti established BLDEA (Bijapur Lingayat Education Association) on October 23, 1910. Today, BLDEA is a leading education organization in the North Karnataka region. Thie association has a legacy of more than 100 years and 75 educational institutions under its banner, which comprise professional institutes, colleges of humanities and social sciences, public schools and research institutes

The Shivaubhava magazine was published by him regularly for a period of 35 years, which was a great service towards the society at large.

Apart from these major contributions, he was also a renowned politician holding the position of MLA in the state of Bombay.
